2013 Gift Guide

After a bit of a hiatus from the kitchen after Thanksgiving, a 30th birthday milestone, and general food-overload, I’ve gotten myself into Christmas shopping gear (good thing since there are only a few days left).  Here are a few of my favorite things for yourself or your peeps this Christmas.

Foodie-Christmas-Gift-Guide-2013

  1. Solid Brass Pretzel Necklace $80 – Quirky and cute, just like the shop it comes from, this is sure to be a unique gift (Gold Teeth Brooklyn also has a peanut and a popcorn necklace if that’s more your flavor).
  2. Milk Glass Cake Plate $65 – I first saw this plate in a Houston restaurant with a carrot cake perched on top, so gorgeous that I scoured the web until I found it. There’s a larger one out there somewhere, too. (If you know where, tell me!)
  3. Grey Sea Salt Caramels in Dark Chocolate $20 – Amella uses blue agave nectar and pure cocoa butter, which is why I like these so much. They will make you very happy.
  4. Christmas Tea Towels $14 – Anything from Mary Gregory Studios is a score of a gift, but these flour sack tea towels with prints of Mary’s original oil paintings are a perfect holiday or hostess gift. (I’ve washed mine a million times and they stay beautifully vibrant)
  5. Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Membership starting at $24 per delivery – A gift that gives all year, membership to a local food delivery service such as JBGOrganic also supports the local community of farmers. Johnson’s Backyard is available in Austin, Houston, San Antonio and Dallas.
  6. Kinfolk Magazine ($60 for 1-year subscription) and the The Kinfolk Table Book ($23.80 on Amazon) both unique reads on understated entertaining, beautifully photographed, celebrating international cuisine made by regular people and chefs alike. You will actually make the recipes from the Kinfolk publications, rather than sit them on a shelf somewhere to look pretty.
  7. NutriBullet $120 – because who doesn’t need a traveling, mini-blender?
  8. Con’ Olio Oils & Vinegars Holiday Sampler  $24 – You haven’t lived until you’ve tasted quality balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Con’ Olio makes it easy to taste different flavors with this sampler including 4 selections of your choice.
  9. Epic Bars $40 for box of 12 – Beef jerky meets granola bar; perfect stocking stuffer for the guys. The beef habanero & cherry is approved by Tall Tim.
  10. Perini Ranch Smoked Tenderloin $110 – This tenderloin is a an investment, but worth every penny as a special treat to serve as an hors d’oeuvre or gift to your boss. It ships overnight, frozen inside a keepsake Perini Ranch canvas sack and includes instructions for a 2-ingredient horseradish sauce that accompanies the meat perfectly!
